The city of Cranston last week hosted community members at City Hall for observance of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Mayor Allan Fung, Aram Garabedian, and Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Rhode Island chairperson Ani Haroian provided remarks, and Roxanne Arzoomanian and John Takian received special recognition from the city, state Sen. Hanna Gallo, and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin. Father Kapriel Nazarian and Arch Priest Gomidas Baghsarian of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church and Pastor Hagop Manjelikian of the Armenian Evengelical Church of Cranston took part in the gathering. Armenian Youth Federation/Homenetmen Scout member Taleen Donoyan provided a special reading. Cranston residents Taleen Donoyan, Anna-Marie Danayan, and Alysha Phillips sang the American and Armenian national anthems, and Raffi Rachdouni of the ANC of RI served as the program’s emcee. The gathering concluded with the raising of the Armenian flag outside City Hall, followed by light refreshments indoors. “The spirit will never die,” Garabedian said. We should all be proud that we never, never quit this cause.” (Herald photos)
