Witty. Sassy. Inspirational. Menopause Mama is an entertaining one-woman show created to celebrate positive, can-do attitudes associated with mid-life changes.

After taking a hiatus, Rose Weaver has returned and plans to perform the show around the state throughout March. The show dates include Southside Cultural Center on Sunday, Mar. 5, B. Pinelli’s on Monday, Mar. 6 to celebrate the YWCA-RI’s 150th and Tuesday, Mar. 21 through Saturday, Mar. 25 at the Pot au Feu. Ticket prices and show times vary.

“Menopause Mama is a wonderful theatrical experience regardless of whether or not you have any interest in menopause and whether or not you’re female,” The Wisdom of Menopause author Dr. Christiane Northrup says. “I was moved to tears watching Rose make art and music out of essence of my life’s work about women’s wisdom and women’s bodies.”

When she first wrote Menopause Mama, Rose Weaver noticed the lack of artistic representation in today's media that depicts what people experience as they go through life, physically and mentally. Through story and song, Weaver aims to generate conversation about aging – how it affects everyone, regardless of age or gender – and depicts the struggles, triumphs, tears and the lighter side of menopause.

"Even today most people choose not to speak about the change of life and sweep their questions and concerns under the rug," says Weaver, 67. "Menopause Mama is here to tell them we’re not buying into society’s negative images about growing older. We’re wiser, sexier and more fulfilled. And we’re not nearly done!”

In 2002, Menopause Mama debuted at Perishable Theatre in Providence, RI. Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of The Wisdom of Menopause, endorsed the performance. The show was extended twice, had sell-out audiences and traveled around New England and to Bermuda.

Rose Weaver has been an entertainer and vocalist for 45 years. She has acted in television shows and was a company member for 11 seasons at Trinity Rep. She has performed at the Old Globe in San Diego and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Weaver has a BA in English from Wheaton College, an MFA in creative writing from Brown University and holds Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degrees from Marymount Manhattan College and Providence College. She is member of Screen Actor's Guild, Actor's Equity Association and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Funding provided in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council On The Arts, through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and private funders.
