CARE DURING THE HOLIDAYS: Health Center employees Daphney Balan and Kelly O’Malley are pictured at the annual Christmas party with Sheri Masiello, Dr. Joseph Samartano and Kenneth H. Belcher, president and CEO of CharterCARE Health Partners.

A local dance studio owner made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children by collecting and distributing 600 toys at the Christmas Party hosted at the St. Joseph Center for Health and Human Services on Dec. 14.

Sheri Masiello, the owner of To The Pointe of Performing Arts, collects toys every year at the annual holiday performance of her dance school. Those attending that holiday show at Rhode Island College were asked to bring a toy as part of their admission. Masiello had conducted similar toy drives in the past. This was the first time she donated toys to the St. Joseph Health Center, after learning about its annual party for children from her friend Kelly O’Malley, one of the Center’s employees.

At the Christmas party, children who receive care at the Center met Santa Claus, received presents and enjoyed a series of fun holiday activities. More than 500 children attended what was the Center’s 30th annual party.

“Thanks to Sheri and others like her who donated time and gifts, children in the neighborhood were able to enjoy the true spirit of Christmas,” said Kenneth H. Belcher, president and CEO. “I would also like to thank the staff of the Center, for not only organizing and hosting a wonderful event but for the great work they do every day in providing care for the underserved in our community.”

To The Pointe of Performing Arts has three locations: Cranston, North Providence and West Greenwich.

"I am honored to have been able to be a part of this event. My dancers not only enjoy the opportunity to perform in our annual holiday shows, but also look forward to seeing all of the toys that we are able to collect and learn that giving to the community is its own reward,” said Masiello. “We use our love of dance to give back. It's an amazing learning experience for all involved."
