Cyber-Seniors: Connecting Generations

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, July 5 to Aug. 10, 9:30 a.m. to noonURI Community Service Connecting Generations Program

Every day we see an ever-growing reliance on technology to assist in the ways in which we communicate with one another. We are currently seeing the greatest generation gap since rock ‘n’ roll, due to this digital divide. There is the generation of older adults who have lived most of their lives without these gadgets, and then there is the younger generation who was born into this new world of modern technology. In a way, it’s as if these two groups are speaking different languages. What can we do about it? We now have help with the “Cyber-Seniors: Connecting Generations” program. Two URI pharmacy students are bringing this special program to Cranston. They will be available at the center two mornings a week. Bring in your gadgets – cell phones, tablets, computers, etc. – along with your questions and concerns. They are here to help you catch up with today’s technology.

Diabetes Support Group

Are you diabetic? Is a loved one diabetic? Are you frustrated? It’s normal for people to feel frustrated being a diabetic. It is also important to get support from others with diabetes. These people truly understand, motivate, and will encourage you. Stop by one of our Diabetes Support Group meetings. We meet once a month on the first Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Rhode Island Telephone Equipment Loan Program

You may be eligible to receive an amplified telephone for you or someone you know. A representative from ATEL will be at the center to explain this program. For more information, please contact Jennifer at 401-780-6254.

Computer Classes: Basic

There are two different sessions. These classes will provide basic instruction, from turning on the computer and using the mouse to performing basic computer tasks. You may choose a six-session series for one hour each or a three-session series for two hours each. Pre-registration is a must. There are only four students per class. Call 401-780-6216 or stop by to register.
