(Charming Disney cartoon feature with messages)

At last, a charming cartoon feature with messages for both young and old. Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) is an adorable little bunny who wants to be a police officer. The problem is that she is destined to follow the family business of carrot farming. That’s what rabbits do.

Not in Disney’s world of “Zootopia.” Here, you can be anything you set your mind to. Bunnies have been labeled dumb, and Judy’s newfound friend, Nick the fox (voice of Jason Bateman), has been labeled as sly. Judy is assigned to meter maid duty, where she runs into Nick, who helps her solve a big case, as they both become heroes. That’s the story. It is what happens along the way that makes “Zootopia” so good.

The cartoon deals with bullying, stereotyping, prejudice, diversity, and the concept of paying it forward, all with lovely little situations and no preaching. Kids will get the all-important messages while adults will find loads of positive examples to share with them. The drawings are up to the high Disney standards, as are the multitude of animal characters.

If you’ve seen the trailers, you should have been drawn in by the hilarious scene with the slow-moving sloth at the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is a classic! And then there’s the mole Godfather, who comes to Judy’s aid.

Judy must find out why the predator animals have become “savage,” providing more fodder for messages about stereotyping, bigotry and false assumptions and leading to a wonderful ending to one of the best family movies in years. Rated PG, with nothing to worry about and a lot to think about and praise.
