The students of Chester Barrows Elementary School were surprised with donations of back to school supplies at the Back to School event on Friday, Sept. 1.

Three-hundred notebooks, 200 pencils, 200 pens, 20 packs of 24-count crayons and 100 reading books were all donated through the diligence and generosity of the Esperanza Hope organization.

“Chester Barrows families were truly appreciative of the supplies offered to the families of the Chester Barrows school community. Students were excited to receive the supplies as they begin a new school year. Many thanks to Esperanza Hope for serving our school community in such a generous way,” said Principal Janet Antonelli.

“Esperanza-Hope, is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to bring hope and inspire a positive vision of the future for the children in our community in Rhode Island and for children in the poorest communities of the Dominican Republic.

Our charitable services include donating books, backpacks filled with school supplies, clothing, shoes, toys, sports equipment and more to needy children. Our aim is to foster in children a more positive outlook by providing the tools necessary for success. In order to meet our missions and provide services to children locally and globally we surprise the children with these items on the streets, shelters, schools and Children’s Hospital. In addition, our charitable services include a monthly visit to our local homeless in Rhode Island and give them clothing, shoes and personal care items, such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, etc.,” said President Wilda Gutierrez.
