AAA finds $2.38 gas as the low price

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down three cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAAs September 3 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.56 per gallon. Rhode Islands price is one cent lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.57. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was thirty cents higher at $2.86.

As an east coast storm, Hurricane Dorian is not threatening major oil and gas infrastructure so its impact is localized to its path along the east coast, said Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast Manager of Public Affairs & Traffic Safety. For New England and the rest of the country, demand, which remains high, is chipping away at supply, but not at a high enough rate to increase gas prices.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 38 cents, from a low of $2.39 to a high of $2.77.
