Russell and Ruth McCombs, both 93, of Warwick, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 5. A celebration dinner was enjoyed by them and immediate family at Twin Oaks. Russell married Ruth Nelson at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Warwick, on June 5, 1948, officiated by Rev. Zuber. They reside in Warwick and had wintered in Bradenton, Fla. for 20 years after retirement, Russell from Universal Engravers and Ruth from New England Telephone. They have enjoyed traveling by car throughout the U.S., taking scenic roads and cruises abroad. The couple are the parents of Kathleen (Conrad) Johnson of Welaka, Fla. and Richard (Kate) McCombs of Phoenix, Arizona. They have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Russell, a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, attended the RI Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Bravo (2009) to the Washington WWII Memorial, accompanied by his grandson, Paul R Giroux, and recently was presented with the balance of his WWII service metals by Congressman Langevin.
