18th Annual Back to School Celebration set for Aug. 19

The Back to School Celebration Steering Committee invites you to join us as an Exhibitor at the 18th Annual Back to School Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s celebration will be hosted at twelve community sites located in Providence, Central Falls, Cranston, Cumberland, Newport, Pawtucket, West Warwick and Woonsocket. Based on last year’s experience we expect to attract nearly 15,000 students and their families. Students will receive free backpacks with school supplies, including lunch and entertainment. The event’s signatures sponsors are Sodexo School Services, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, United Way and Pawtucket Credit Union, CVS Health, AARP RI and Cox Communications. Each year, they have over 150 exhibitors that represent community agencies from the cities of Providence, Central Falls, Cranston, Cumberland, Newport, Pawtucket, West Warwick and Woonsocket.

In addition to providing free school supplies, the Back to School Celebration provides an opportunity for community partners to educate families about their services. While it is an excellent opportunity to showcase one’s agency, the event asks exhibitors for a contribution of $35 that will allow more backpacks for children. Each exhibitor is expected to bring enough material for at least 1,000-plus for parents with children. Prizes and giveaways are always welcome.

There are 12 sites from which to choose. An organization may have a booth at the site closest to their agency or at any additional site of their choice. Those locations are: The Cranston YMCA, Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy, East Bay Community Action Program, Veazie St. Elementary School in Providence, McCoy Stadium, Nathanael Greene Middle School in Providence, Parent Information and Student Registration in Providence, St. James Baptist Church in Woonsocket, Thundermist Health Center in West Warwick, United Way of R.I., Veteran’s Memorial Elementary School in Central Falls and the West End Community Center in Providence.

Please return the registration form no later than Aug. 4, 2017. Table set-up at all locations will be at 8:30 a.m. In anticipation, families and children start lining up an hour prior to the celebration. Organizations must bring their own table, tent and chair(s) and are asked to stay the entire event.

Please contact Grace Gonzalez at 459-6018 for any questions. Exhibitors forms can be email to ggonzalez@nhpri.org. Confirmation will be e-mailed upon receiving the exhibitor’s form.

Any questions can be directed to Miosotis Alsina at malsina@lifespan.org or call 444-2955.
