On Sunday, May 21, Bochner's Realistic Self-Defense, located at 855 Dyer Ave., celebrated moms by inviting them for a free workshop on how they can keep themselves, and their children safe, at home, in the parking lot, and anywhere life takes you. Family and children over the age of 10 were also welcomed. In total, 16 participants learned the basics of self-defense.

“We instructed the class how to present yourself strong and confident, so that any adversary will see you, and know you are not someone to be messed with,” said Sensei Marc Bochner. “We instructed them on simple, easy, and practical defenses that will help them get out of threatening scenarios safely.”

Bochner's Realistic Self-Defense specializes in realistic self-defense, fitness and self-protection, and has programs and classes for adults and children ages 6 and older. They often use a scenario-based training program.

Bochner began training in martial arts since the age of 8 and began teaching at the age of 16. He has been teaching at his dojo for approximately five years and he has authored three books on self-defense.

He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island and is owner of Bochner's Realistic Self-Defense.

Come celebrate Father's Day with a Free Self-Defense Seminar for the whole family (ages 9 and older). The seminar will be held at Bochner's Realistic Self-Defense on Saturday, June 17, (one day before Father's Day) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, please contact them at 401-943-4100.
