Cranston East (14-0-1) edged Toll Gate (13-2), 36-33, in a battle between two of the top wrestling squads in Division II on Wednesday night.

Kevin Som and James Roderick earned pins for East at 106 and 113 to give the ’Bolts an early advantage.

However, Toll Gate would battle back.

It got three consecutive pins at 120, 126 and 132 from William Brogno, Datyn Deasley and Jorden DaPonte to take a short-lived lead, before East’s Angel DeJesus (138) and Joshua Guzman (145) answered by earning decisions in their matches.

Toll Gate once again responded, though, winning three of the next four matches, as Kyle Brown continued his impressive campaign with a pin at 145, while Connor Tainsh recorded a pin of his own at 170 and Ryan Barker earned a victory via a decision at 182. East’s Jamari Cardoso-Mason posted the only win for the ’Bolts over that stretch on a decision at 160.

With Toll Gate leading with three matches left, forfeits would cost it down the stretch, as East’s Brendan Lanigan (195) and Zachary King (220) were awarded forfeit victories.

James Lemos then clinched the victory for East in the heavyweight bout, earning a decision to secure the three-point victory for his squad.
