Boi named manager of BankRI’s Pawtucket branch

The Bank Rhode Island branch in Pawtucket has a new manager. BankRI recently announced it has promoted Christina Boi to lead its location at 499 Smithfield Ave., which is among its most heavily trafficked.

Previously, Boi served as assistant manager of BankRI’s Atwood Avenue branch in Cranston. In her role, she oversees the branch’s day-to-day operations with a heavy focus on both business development and the delivery of personalized customer service. She is also responsible for employee development, training and coaching.

“Since joining the BankRI team, Christina has not only advanced her leadership skills; she’s shown herself to place a premium on the one-on-one interactions our customers are looking for in their local bank,” said Steven M. Parente, senior vice president and director of retail banking for BankRI. “This is a well-deserved promotion – we’re excited to have Christina’s experience and talents leading our Pawtucket branch.”

Boi joined BankRI in 2013 after serving as an assistant branch manager with Citizens Bank. Prior to her banking career, she spent 15 years in retail management.

A resident of Cranston, Boi is actively involved with Project Night Vision, a Providence-based program that provides activities for at-risk teens during the evening and nighttime hours to keep them safe and off the streets. She is also a dedicated supporter of Junior Achievement RI, and recently recognized by the organization for being among the Top-5 Individual Fundraisers of its 35th annual “Achieve-A-Bowl” event.

Cranston’s Carosi named to PBN’s ‘40 Under Forty’ list

Webster Bank has announced announce that Jason Carosi, its senior vice president and senior relationship manager, has been named to Providence Business News’ 15th “40 Under Forty” list.

Carosi was chosen from more than 150 applicants who work in Rhode Island for his notable career success and outstanding community service.

“Jason is an extremely conscientious and driven professional with 16 years of experience in accounting, banking and management,” said Donald M. Troppoli, senior vice president, Webster Bank’s business banking regional manager for Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. “He is a man of integrity and ethics, who is also highly engaged in the communities we serve. We’re so very proud to see him recognized for all that he has accomplished.”

Carosi joined Webster’s team in 2013 as a vice president and relationship manager in business banking, and has quickly risen to senior vice president and senior relationship manager. He manages a large and complex portfolio of highly valued clients. He has consistently delivered exceptional results year over year and is considered one of the top-ranked relationship managers in the bank.

The 2019 “40 Under Forty” winners – including doctors, scientists, lawyers, engineers and even a farmer – will be honored July 18 at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick. Each will be profiled in an upcoming special section of PBN.

Carosi has been a past recipient of Webster Bank’s Silver Winners’ Circle, given to the banker with the second highest revenue production in Business Banking.

A resident of Cranston, Carosi has provided leadership, time and talent to many local and regional nonprofit organizations. He has been a board member of Rhode Island’s Leadership Board for the American Lung Association of the Northeast since 2010 and served as board chair in 2015. He is also a board member of Junior Achievement of Rhode Island and a member of its Development Committee.

Carosi is a past member of Webster Bank’s Employee Campaign Board for United Way of Rhode Island and Inspiring Minds’ Power Lunch Program. He also is an active participant in Providence’s Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s “Good Night Lights” tradition, and he volunteers and fundraises on behalf of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance, an organization dedicated to the pursuit of scientific research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich’s ataxia.

United Way of RI welcomes new staff members

United Way of Rhode Island recently announced four new hires to its staff.

Mary Ann Canavan has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer; Brooke Havens hired as executive vice president and chief development officer; April Garcia welcomed as director of human resources; and Marlene Guay has been named grants and initiatives manager for expanded learning.

Canavan brings more than 30 years of experience to her new role. Over the past five years, she has served as a manager with the accounting firm Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Ltd., dedicating much of her time to supporting the nonprofit sector through consulting and serving as interim CFO for a variety of organizations. She has served as UWRI’s interim CFO since March 2019. She is a resident of Cumberland and holds a B.S. in business administration from Bryant University.

Havens most recently served as vice president and senior public affairs market manager in Rhode Island and Connecticut for Citizens Bank, and previously worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI as program manager, community relations and CSR. Her extensive professional experience has focused on both nonprofit fundraising and supporting for-profit organizations as they develop their corporate social responsibilities and strategies. A resident of Warwick, She holds a master’s in nonprofit management from Northeastern University, and a B.A. in political science from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Her UWRI position becomes effective on June 17.

Garcia leads UWRI’s primary human resources functions, and is responsible for overseeing benefits administration, HR compliance and performance management. She also provides oversight and management for recruitment, onboarding, payroll, and employee relations and records. Previously, she handled human resources for Thundermist Health Center, a federally qualified community health center. She is a resident of Cranston, and holds a master’s degree in human resources and labor relations from the University of Rhode Island a B.S. in business management from Rhode Island College.

Guay is the newest member of UWRI’s Community Investment team. In her role, she oversees United Way’s work on children’s development and education, including early childhood, summer, and afterschool learning. With a wide range of experience in curriculum and program development for children and educators, Marlene most recently worked for the Museum of Science in Boston as a professional development manager. Previously, she was the Early Learning Program developer for Providence Children’s Museum. She holds a B.S. in human development and family studies from URI, and a Rhode Island Teacher Certificate for pre-kindergarten through second grade. She is a resident of Woonsocket.
