Immaculate Conception celebrates Catholic Schools Week

No matter what the event, officials at Immaculate Conception Catholic Regional School always find a way to make it special.

Take last Friday night’s Toe Jam Puppet Concert, for example.

It was the conclusion of Catholic Schools Week at Cranston-based IC, and Principal Andrea Spaziante and other staffers made sure everyone from the Little Saints kindergarten to children up to grade 5 – as well as their parents – had as much fun as possible.

The school enlisted the services of the unique Toe Jam Puppet Band, which is always a favorite at IC, and in keeping with tradition Vinny Lovegrove and Tom made the event extra special for each and every child.

While the talented tandem played country music and other popular lively hits for kids, one of the night’s highlights was when Lovegrove, who was wearing a headset microphone, turned on a bubble machine that pumped dozens upon dozens into the IC gymnasium when he started a lap or two around the gymnasium followed by the kids.

“They’re having so much fun,” one woman remarked while watching the children leap to pop bubbles as Lovegrove went back to the group’s sound system. “Now he’s got them answering fun questions with body movement and answers. The kids really love this.”

IC held similar events during Catholic Schools Week, which Spaziante said “was a huge success and included participation by each and every member of the school’s community.”

The week began with a grade one prayer service and included parents of those IC students.

“Students were encouraged to create and wear a shirt with their prayer intentions and/or special prayers written on it,” Spaziante said.

Tuesday was Parent/Volunteer Day and included a special coffee hour in the library. Wednesday, meanwhile, was Students Appreciation Day and teachers in each team planned a special activity for their students. Thursday was Teacher Appreciation Day and the school’s PTO organizers held a lunch to celebrate the IC faculty and staff.

Friday’s schedule began with a First Friday Mass and concluded with the fun-filled Toe Jam Puppet Concert that included parents and their children wearing a variety of New England Patriots garb.

“This is just a small example of the great things this school does for its students and parents,” several men observed while thanking the Toe Jam Puppet Band duo for another great presentation. “The people here always make it special for all our families.”
