The 2nd annual NBC Channel 10 Volley for Buddies will take place this Labor Day weekend (Sept. 1-3) at Mulligan's Island in Cranston.
Starting at Midnight on Friday, Sept. 1 and running until midnight on Sunday, Sept. 3, this 48-hour marathon volleyball event is one-of-a-kind.
You can register today with your friends and family to play in 6-hour blocks. There are a bunch of spaces open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday! Only $20 to play and you will receive a tee shirt. Visit bestbuddies.org/rhodeisland for more information.
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is now accepting applications for its free, 14-week Community Kitchen Program, a culinary job training program for adults 18 years and older. Beginning in September, the program prepares participants for entry-level jobs in the restaurant and food service industry through training in basic cooking skills, food service operations, ServSafe procedures, first aid, safety and life skills.
Students also participate in unpaid internships to expand their skills and help prepare them for permanent employment. Graduates receive a certificate for completing 400 hours of training. Assistance in job placement is provided.

2017 Senior Games - “Fitness for the Body & Mind” will begin with Opening Ceremonies at the Center on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. Join in for a week of fun and sport! CCAP's Head Start /Early Head Start Programs are recruiting children from birth to 5 years old. Bright futures for children begin with great child care both at home and away.
Head Start is a free federally funded program serving income eligible children and families and a free federally funded program serving Foster Children. It also provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, infants and toddlers, three to four-year olds and children who missed the Kindergarten age mandate. Services are offered to children with Special Needs, free breakfast and lunch is provided, Parent Engagement Opportunities, extended daycare services offered for parents who are working or in school and priority is given to families experiencing homelessness.
CCAP offers programs for children and their parents that focus on early childhood education and development, mental and physical health, safety, nutrition, family engagement, and parenting.
Their Head Start programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. They engage parents in their children's learning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals.
