CLCF takes home two titles

The CLCF youth football program had an impressive finish to its season this past weekend, as three of its teams competed in the AYF State Championship with two taking home gold.

The CLCF 10U squad topped the powerhouse Woonsocket Redskins 19-6, while the CLCF 8U club won a 6-0, overtime thriller against the Lincoln Lions.

The CLCF 12’s came up short in a 36-12 loss to East Providence.

“It’s awesome, it’s great to have our teams like our 8U team for example be around for the next six years to come. Our 10U team is just two wins away from going to nationals which is a great feat. It’s been great,” said CLCF President and 12U coach Eugene Matera.

Matera credited the local coaches for establishing the strong foundation that has led CLCF to becoming arguably the top youth football program in the state.

“We have great coaches (in CLCF), especially in these three teams specifically. On my team, we have two coaches that don’t even have kids but just love coaching football. We have kids that are in high school that are still helping coach, we have multiple generations of coaches. That’s an amazing thing, it’s a family organization,” said Matera.
