While we were aware of the luxurious condominiums and private golf course at North Providence’s Louisquisset Country Club, we recently learned that Bob Hennerman, the former owner of Ethan Anthony’s in Graniteville, had taken over the operation of their Back Nine restaurant.

Re-named Ethan Anthony’s Back Nine (Bob’s son’s name), the attractive room and adjoining patio overlooks the luscious golf course.

With such an atmosphere of luxury, it is good to learn that Bob offers fine dining at very reasonable prices.

A visit to Ethan Anthony’s will find golfers at the bar and restaurant mixing with condo residents and the general public. Bob wanted to emphasize that the restaurant is open daily to the general public.

The menu is one of the more interesting assortments we have found in Rhode Island, ranging from flatbread pizza to $5. Burger Wednesdays to “small plates”, “hand helds” and “big plates”.

We started with the Tee Off Small Plate of Twisted Garlic Shrimp ($12), a generous portion of tender shrimp in champagne tempura with sweet chili gojuchchang, toasted garlic chip and scallions. Very tasty!

Joyce chose the pepper crusted bacon, bleu cheese and caramelized onion flatbread ($12), loaded with a mozzarella cheese and crushed tomato blend, making for a different and wonderful taste.

While I was tempted by their hamburgers, including the classic, which was a blend of short rib and chuck, and the short rib grilled cheese, I took our waitress’s advice and ordered the fish and chips ($17).

Bob cooks his craft beer battered haddock filet to perfection, adding house fries that were curly, crispy and delicious, and a side of house kohlrabi slaw.

There are daily specials both for food and drink. The bartender makes a great martini and Black Russian, including variety of specialty cocktails.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal with club and condo members indistinguishable from the general public.

Current hours are Monday-Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.

Ethan Anthony’s Back Nine at the Louisquisset is a mouthful, and so is the eclectic menu.

Driving in is half the fun. We took Lexington, left off the Mineral Spring Ave. exit on Route 146, but many of the side streets lead you through the carefully planned community. When you find Overlook Circle, you are there. There are signs leading to the clubhouse and restaurant, so enjoy the trip.
