Heroin trafficker sentenced to prison

A Providence man has received a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to selling heroin.

Wilkins Robles-Tejada, 29, will additional serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison term. In February, he pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of possession of 100 grams or more of heroin with intent to distribute.

Cranston and Providence police arrested Robles-Tejada in February 2015. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha, an individual working with Providence police had made heroin purchases from Robles-Tejada on at least two occasions during the course of an investigation, and the suspect had also been observed visiting a Cranston residence multiple times.

A search warrant at the Cranston home was executed on Feb. 20, 2015, resulting in the seizure of roughly 981 grams of heroin, 95 grams of cocaine, 19 grams of fentanyl, and a firearm.

Man admits to building, detonating pipe bomb

A Cranston man has pleaded guilty to manufacturing and detonating a pipe bomb in West Greenwich last year.

Vincent A. Fasano, 26, entered the plea in U.S. District Court last week, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha. His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 23.

According to authorities, Fasano in October 2015

manufactured and detonated a pipe bomb which he had placed inside a refrigerator and left in a gravel pit in West Greenwich.” Fasano is said to have admitted purchasing several of the items to make the device – including a steel pipe, end caps, gun power, and a cannon fuse – from a home improvement store in Warwick, and to assembling the bomb with the intention of detonating it.

Fasano is said to have told authorities that he drove the device, and a refrigerator used to contain it, to a remote location in West Greenwich.

“He admitted that he ignited the explosive device inside the refrigerator and drove away,” reads a statement from Neronha’s office. “Fasano told investigators that as he drove away he heard, but did not see the explosion. According to court records, Fasano also admitted to investigators that he previously built and detonated pipe bombs, causing significant damage to mailboxes, a portable latrine outside a pizza shop, and to a toilet.”

Man sentenced for seeking sex with 14-year-old

A Scituate man has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison after admitting he traveled to Cranston in September 2015 with the intention of exchanging an iPhone for sex with a 14-year-old girl, according to prosecutors.

Randy A. Collins, 44, entered the plea in March and was sentenced in late May, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha. He was additionally ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release following the end of his prison term.

According to authorities, Collins admitted in court that in 2015 he responded to an advertisement on Craigslist that he believed had been posted by a 14-year-old girl seeking to obtain an iPhone 6. The person with whom Collins was communicating was in fact a Rhode Island State Police detective, authorities said.

Despite being repeatedly informed of the age of the person who posted the ad, authories say Collins remained interested in meeting with the girl. He then “turned the exchange to a sexual nature and proposed obtaining the iPhone in exchange for sex,” prosecutors say.

Arrangements were made, and on Sept. 2, 2015, authorities say Collins left his workplace in Franklin, Mass., and traveled to Cranston to meet the person with whom he had communicated. Upon arrival, state police and Homeland Security personnel took him into custody.
