Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) is calling all golfers from Sept. 3 through 13 to the 13th to the CCAP Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shoot-Out at Harbor Lights along beautiful Greenwich Bay in Warwick Neck.
A $10 donation gets you three balls and your chance for a Million Dollars. The two golfers closest to the pin will go onto to the CCAP Chip for Charity Million Dollar Hole in One Contest and a chance for One Million Dollars!
CCAP is Rhode Island’s largest community action agency that provides an array of quality programs and services that are dictated to fighting the war on poverty. For more information about CCAP go to www.ComCap.org.
Please join us for an evening reception and silent auction and the CCAP Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shoot-Out on Sept. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harbor Lights. This will be the largest fundraiser they host during the year to benefit programs and services throughout the community.

Artists' Exchange's Youth Theatre Program will present Heathers the Musical – High School Edition based on the book, music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy and based on the film written by Daniel Waters. The performances will be Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., Aug 25 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
Directed By Rachel Terceira and Kyarah Rosa with Musical Direction by William Petterson, Heathers The Musical (High School Edition) is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers, but before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously handsome new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized but J.D has another plan for their bullet.
All performances will be held at the Artists’ Exchange/Theater 82, located at 82 Rolfe Sq. in Cranston. Tickets are $15 per general admission.
For more then two generations, the Cranston Greek Festival has been held the on the church grounds, the weekend after Labor Day. The Festival marks the “Official End of Summer in Rhode Island.” This year it will be held on Sept. 7 through Sept. 9.
More than 25,000 people will visit the Cranston Greek Festival over the course of this fabulous three-day event of Food, Fun, Greek Dancing and Culture.
The 33rd Annual “3-Day” Cranston Greek Festival will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation on the parish grounds at 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Route 5, Cranston.
Mark your calendars! The annual YMCA Back to School Celebration event will be happening August 18. Get free school supplies and learn about resources in your community. This event will be happening all over the state. The Cranston YMCA, located at1225 Park Ave., will host their event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Child or children must be present.
Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Cranston residency is not required. Plan on coming for a fun afternoon.

On Aug. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the Garden City Concert Series will close out their free summer concert series with the rescheduled concert by Neal & The Vipers who feature Premier Blues, Roots, Rockabilly and Surf Band.
This year’s sponsors are BankNewport and Tasca Chevrolet. Everyone is asked to bring a food donation of peanut butter or tuna fish to each concert for the CCAP food pantry.

Rhode Island Villari’s Self Defense Center, located at 623 Reservoir Ave, Cranston will offer free self-defense and personal protection classes Aug. 20 through 26. Classes will be offered for all students of all ages – elementary school, middle school, high school and college as well as parents and adults.
These classes are being offered as a community service with no cost or obligation. No prior experience required, and all participants should wear comfortable clothing.
A free safety keychain and class showing how to utilize it will be given to the first 25 to register at the Cranston location.

Movie Time at the Center will be held on Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. and will feature “Saving Mr. Banks” Starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks. The untold back story of how Mary Poppins made it to the screen. All spurred by a promise that Walt Disney made to his daughters.
Resources 101: Senior Discounts - “Dining & Marketing” will be held on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. The Guest Speaker will be Ruthann Lombardi. While others are paying the full price seniors can enjoy a variety of discounts. Resources 101 will focus on discounts and savings on meals at restaurants and on groceries at our local restaurants and markets.
Mayor’s Annual Picnic - “A Summer Party” – will be held on Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brayton Avenue Park with a suggested donation of $3 per person. There will be games, live music, fun and great food! Menu includes: Lemonade, Honey BBQ Boneless Chicken, Hot Dog on a Roll, Buttered Corn, Tomato & Cucumber Salad, and Watermelon. Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program entitled, “Take Control, One Step at a Time, Keep Moving” will begin with Orientation at the Center on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. The walks will be held Mon, Wed, and Fri from 9 to 10 a.m., beginning Sept. 17 and ending Oct. 26 at the Cranston High School West Walking Track. The Cranston Senior Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, Oct.2 and Wednesday, Oct. 3 and everyone who is 55 years or older is invited to participate at the Cranston Country Club, located at 69 Burlingame Rd. Fee: $75 per person which includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch and a banquet immediately following. Call 780-6218 for a registration form.
The Little Sisters of the Poor are hosting their annual PawSox Family Fun Day at McCoy Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 19. The 13th annual outing begins at 11:30 a.m. with a delicious pre-game summertime barbecue, after which fans can cheer for a Little Sister who will throw a ceremonial pitch just before the PawSox take the field for a contest with the Durham Bulls.

Marching band invitational
On Saturday, October 13 Cranston High School East's Thunderbolt Band & Emerald Encore hosts its annual Marching Band Invitational at Cranston Stadium, featuring 8 of New England's high school marching bands, including Cranston East, Portsmouth, Dartmouth, Dennis-Yarmouth, Mansfield, Somerset-Berkley, Bishop Feehan and Oliver Ames High School.
The Thunderbolts will be performing their 2018 field show.
The night also includes a 50/50 raffle as well as food/drink. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students/seniors, and free for children under the age of five.
On August 21, National Senior Citizens Day honors our elderly population. On this day, we are encouraged to recognize and show appreciation for the value and contribution of elderly people to home, family and society.
In his Presidential Proclamation (August 19, 1988), President Ronald Reagan said "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older."
On National Senior Citizens Day, we should: spend some time with senior citizens. Show our appreciation for senior citizens and do volunteer work in support of the elderly (Source: August Fun Facts)
