Cranston High School East’s music department has another feather to put in its drum major’s cap.

During the annual Spring Concert on May 7, the department inducted its first class into the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Tri-M is the only recognized honor society for high school musicians in the country. Since 1936, members have met or exceeded the necessary criteria in musicianship, scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Currently, there are approximately 2,300 active chapters across several countries.

To be eligible for membership, a student must maintain an A average in their music classes, a B average in all of their academic courses, be presently enrolled in a music course at their school and be recommended for membership by their school’s music faculty.

The students who served as the 2019 Executive Board were president Jaelyn Mateo, vice president Chelsea Amadio, secretary Samuel Hinds, treasurer Dylan April and historian Samantha Schleifer.

The 2019 inductees were Abigail Babola, Tessa Bellotti, Sebastian Borgia, Adriany Cruz, Amanda Fang, Domenic Fusco III, Samuel Hinds, Nadya Lehnert, Rose Lovenbury, Troy Santopadre, Aggerlynn Vetiaque, Chelsea Amadio, Dylan April, Emma Boucher, Lily Frappier, Bernadette Linsangan, Jaelyn Mateo, Aileen Membreno, Sarah Murphy, Samantha Schleifer and Christine Wong.
