The Cranston East and West cross country teams made the trip to Ponaganset last week to compete in the RI State Championships.

Here is a look at some of the results:

Dylan Maples led Cranston schools with a 51st-place finish for the West boys. Deem Quinn finished 108th for the Thunderbolts, while West’s Cole Khanjari, Alex Phok and Nikolas Montaquilla placed 122, 123 and 124, respectively.

West’s Benjamin Harvey placed 128th, followed by teammates Shawn Robbins in 137th and Joseph Gainor in 146th.

Eden Fisher led Cranston schools with a 65th-place finish for the East girls, followed by teammate Stella Loezos in 76th.

Alessandra Messina led West with an 86th-place finish, while Arianna Cunha took 128th for East. Thamia Perez and Aislinn Baxter finished 131 and 132 for the Bolts, while teammates Miko Lehnert finished 134th and Emily Spahn 136th.

Although the Bishop Hendricken cross country team came up short in the State Championship on Saturday, placing second to rival La Salle who won the team title, the Hawks did take home some hardware as Luke Henseler ran to a first-place finish in the individual race with a time of 15:22.70.

“I was just focused on the finish line. You never really know who’s behind your shoulder, I didn’t really know that I won until I was in the shoot,” said Henseler of the finish. “It gives me a little more confidence heading into New Englands. Its’ going to be tough though, there are a lot of good runners from Connecticut that aren’t going to back down. I just have to take it one week at a time.”

Although Henseler and company were hoping to secure another state championship, they were satisfied with their performance and hope to bring their best to next week’s New England Championship.

“The team goal first and foremost, was to come out and run as a pack. The La Salle guys knew that they would have to come out quick. They’ve got guys like Jack McLoughlin, Chase Leach, Max DiMuccio. Me and Evan Reynolds knew that we would have to keep up with them,” said Henseler. “I thought we ran pretty well, last year as a team we finished first so to finish second is a different feeling, but it was still a successful day.”

Experience also played a role as well, according to Henseler.

“Experience is a really big part of it, we have some kids on the team that don’t have a ton of varsity experience, so I think this will fuel them for next year,” said Henseler. “Experience was big but learning on the fly also helped.”

Here is a look at some more local results from the State Championship:

Reynolds finished in third place for Hendricken, while David DelBonis finished in ninth for the Hawks. Hendricken’s James Kiernan later took 26th, while teammate Ryan Dyer placed 28th.

Andrew Woodbine placed 32nd for the Hawks, while teammate Evan McGregor took 47th. Alex White led Pilgrim, finishing in 102nd while teammate Justin Dorsey came in 120th.

The Pilgrim girls finished 12th as a team on the girls side while Emmanuel Degos led Warwick schools with a 7th-place finish overall.

Pilgrim’s Ava McCann took 51st, while Mollie Cunningham led Toll Gate with an 82nd-place finish while teammate make Oce Lowe took 84th. Pilgrim’s Emma Maroni finished 108th, followed by teammate Amber Lopes in 115th. Sofia McCann later placed 121st for Pilgrim, while Annabelle Sisson took 126th for the Pats. Victoria Rowley placed 138th for the Pats as well.
