The Cranston Branch of the YMCA of Greater Providence, in partnership with Barnum Financial and the Foundation for Life, hosted a free youth basketball clinic for

underprivileged children ages 7-10 on Saturday, May 5.

Members of the Brown University basketball teams also volunteered their time to help out with the event. The participants consisted of 55 students, selected based on their grades and academic performance.

At the end of the clinic, students left the facility as they normally would, only to find a surprise waiting for them. Each student went home with a brand new bicycle and riding helmet, donated by Barnum Financial Group.

“We are honored to partner with Barnum Financial Group and the Foundation for Life to provide bicycles and riding helmets to children in need,” stated Steven G. O’Donnell, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Providence. “Like minded organizations working together can make a positive impact on the communities we serve. We also appreciate Brown University’s basketball team members helping with the event and distributing the bicycles.”

“I remember what my first bike meant to me,” said Ben Howarth, a financial services executive at Barnum Financial Group and a member the board of directors of Foundation for Life. “My colleagues and I are proud to give youngsters the same thrill we had when we got our first bike.”
