The Community College of Rhode Island’s Computer Studies department will host a Cybersecurity Night Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the college’s Newport County Campus, One John H. Chafee Blvd., Newport.

The event will begin with an information session at 6 p.m. to discuss CCRI’s Cybersecurity associate degree program in Room 257A.

CCRI’s program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles and methods of cybersecurity, as well as knowledge and tools to apply security measures across a variety of network architectures and settings. It is built to prepare students who intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the field as well as industry professionals who want to upgrade their skills to meet the demands of their employers.

At 6:30 p.m., participants can go to Room 257B to see a demonstration of Rhode Island’s first cyber range dedicated solely to educating and training students and industry professionals. The Rhode Island Cyber Range Initiative is a partnership between the state, EMA, CCRI, the Rhode Island State Police, the Rhode Island National Guard and the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance.

The evening will conclude with a lecture by Charles Bouley, a senior cybersecurity engineer at American Systems Corp. and U.S. Army Reserve Signal Corps Officer, starting at 7 in the auditorium.

The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest community college, has full-service campuses in Warwick, Lincoln, Providence and Newport. CCRI enrolls an average of more than 15,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in noncredit and workforce training classes and programs.
