Feeling all warm and fuzzy at William Hall Library

On Thursday, July 20, the William Hall Library hosted Nancy Santopadre from Warm and Fuzzy Animal Adventures for two 30-minute sessions which introduced children of all ages to a wide variety of small animals. Assisting Santopadre were two of the program participants, Danisha Smith and Lily Faust. The event was originally scheduled to be just one session, but the participant turnout was such that two sessions filled and were held instead.

Santopadre introduced the animals one variety at a time, starting with her five year-old chinchilla, Coco Chanel. She told the children a little bit about each animal variety as she went along, including their eating and sleeping habits, where the originate from and what it might cost to own such an animal. For example, the students learned that Coco Chanel was nocturnal, native to the Andes Mountains, bathes in volcano ashes and eats sticks and wood. Coco Chanel would cost approximately $250.

Chanel was followed by Rocky the ferret, Batman and Robin the rats, Gucci the rooster, Louis Vutton the Lion-head bunny, a pair of twin mini Rex bunnies who were just five weeks old, Rocco the Peruvian guinea pig and Al Pacino, the tortoise.  Each of Santopadre’s pets had a unique name and each had their own personalities, as described by Santopadre in her introductions.

As the participants learned about each variety of pet, her volunteer assistants  took the time to bring the animals around to each and every child, allowing them to get a closer look and to pet them if they so desired. Gucci and Pacino were allowed to travel freely around the rugged area of the room.
