It was “Tomato Saturday” at the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet and Moe, the rooster mascot of gC Farm, was there to greet customers as he always does. As market director Jess Watts planned, a tasting of five different tomato varieties as well as a raffle with a five-pound bag of tomatoes as the prize, Moe was outfitted with a tomato costume for the occasion. He didn’t take to his transformation, and Gwen Mezak and Elaine Rigney soon relieved him of his burden. Watts holds a “Florida 91” tomato before her display of tomato slices that shoppers were grateful to sample before making purchases.
