Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up seven cents this week, according to AAA Northeast. Since February 18, prices locally have jumped 24 cents per gallon.
AAA’s March 25 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.53 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is nine cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.62. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was three cents higher at $2.56.
“Thanks to increasing demand and tightening gasoline stocks across the country, March gas prices came in like a lion and will not go out like a lamb,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “State gas price averages are similar to a year ago give or take a few pennies, with every state but Florida seeing higher prices this week.”
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 35 cents, from a low of $2.44 to a high of $2.79.
