The winner’s circle is no strange setting for the Grammas twins – former Cranston High School West standouts Eleni and Nicole – who last weekend played major roles for the Rhode Island College women’s track and field team.

For starters, the Grammas helped the Anchorwomen win the New England Women’s Track and Field Alliance Championship with a team score of 147.0 and racked up the Little East Conference crown beating eight other squads with a score of 183.0 Saturday by finishing first ahead of 13 other teams at Fitchburg, Ma.

“This was our second straight Little East Championship,” said Scott Gibbons, RIC’s veteran sports information director. “It is the first New England Alliance Outdoor championship for our women’s track team.”

Gibbons noted the Anchorwomen won both the Alliance and Little East titles during the 2018-19 indoor season as well.

Meanwhile, Eleni Grammas won three individual New England Alliance and Little East championship and earned All-NE Alliance honors in four events. The talented senior won the 100m (12.66), 4x100M relay (48-.34) and took first in the 4x400M relay (4:02.30). She placed second overall in the Little East Championship in the 200m (26.65).

Her twin sister Nicole earned All-NE Alliance accolades in three events, winning the 4x1100m relay (48.34), she took first in the 4x400M relay (4:02.30) and was first in the 400m (1:00.30). She also placed seventh in the 200M (27.31).

The Grammas twins teamed with former Pilgrim High standout and RIC junior Emma Landroche and freshmen/former Mount Pleasant star Tiffany Hayes to win 400m relay (4:02.30) and earned All-New England Alliance honors in five events. She won the long jump (5.66m) and 4x100m relay (48.34).

Coach Tim Rudd’s Anchorwomen will compete this Saturday for the New England Division III Championship at Williamstown, Mass.
