Hendricken's Onye headed to Notre Dame

Posted

Bishop Hednricken football will see another one of its stars move on to the Division I collegiate ranks, as highly-recruited defensive end Jason Onye announced his decision to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last week.

At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Onye has been among the most recruited players to ever come out of Rhode Island, joining other Hendricken alumni like Will Blackmon, Kwity Paye and Xavier Truss. Onye received 10 other Division I offers, from schools including Boston College, Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Arizona.

“I would like to first off thank God for putting me in this unbelievable position and giving me the ability to play the sport I love. Also, I would like to thank my parents for raising and supporting me to be the man I am today. Finally, I would like to thank the whole Bishop Hendricken community and coaching staff that has not only developed and shaped me as a football player but also as a man. With that being said, my recruitment is closed! I will be committing to the University of Notre Dame,” said Onye on Twitter.

For more on Onye’s commitment, check out next week’s Cranston Herald.
