With so many ponds frozen and the ice four inches and thicker, not to mention it was Christmas break, Second Time Sports at 453 Atwood Ave. in Cranston was jamming last week as people bought skates or had them sharpened. Christian Kuiawa helps his daughter Audrey try on a pair of skates as his son, Charlie, looks on. Warwick residents, they planned to skate on a pond near Squantum Drive. Sharpening the blades is Anthony Sawaia, who estimated he did 100 pairs of skates on Friday alone. And clearing snow from the ice Sunday at one of the Roger Williams Park ponds (they were ready for hockey) are Cranston residents Sue, Elizabeth and Daniel Cavanagh. (Cranston Herald photos)
