Alessandria Lucca, known as Tina to all her relatives and friends, celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the 1149 Restaurant in Warwick with 75 relatives and friends. Her actual birthday was Monday, Oct. 23.

Tina was born on a small side street just up from Casserta’s Pizza in Federal Hill to Antonio and Maria Di Fonzo, who immigrated to this country from Italy around the turn of the century.

After marrying her husband Angelo, they raised two sons, Anthony and Nicky, at 17 Andrews Street in Federal Hill before moving to Mt. Pleasant, and then to Cranston where she has lived for the past 45 years.

Tina was a floor lady supervisor for a jewelry company in Providence for many years before retiring at 65 in 1982.

The most remarkable thing about this woman is that she takes absolutely no medication and is in great health without the use of a walker, cane or wheelchair.

She attributes her longevity to the slogan “everything in moderation” and, of course, to good Italian cooking and a glass of wine every now and then.
