Joan M. (Sweeney) Bucklad, 87, of Warwick passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late James and Anne (Horan) Sweeney. Joan came from the greatest generation of people who grew up and were shaped by the great depression and World War II. She was responsible for raising six children and taking care of the house. She also put herself through nursing school at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Providence and began her career as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in pediatrics and later at the Scandinavian Home in geriatrics.

Aside her memorable career, she was a devoted mother who had her children in her best interest at all times. In 1976, she and the family moved from Providence to Cranston’s Edgewood section where she resided until present day. She will be remembered by her passion to bake, doing crossword puzzles and reading.

She was the mother of six children: Paul Bucklad, Timothy Bucklad, Robert Bucklad and Mary Beth Mooney, the late Carol Bucklad and the late John Bucklad; grandmother of six: Jennifer DelSesto, Jonathan LaNinfa, Erin LaNinfa, Thomas Mooney, Timothy Bucklad and Katherine Sherman; great-grandmother of three: Christopher DelSesto, Rocco DelSesto and Ryan LaNinfa. She was the youngest of seven siblings of whom are all deceased.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. Funeral from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home on Saturday, July 7 at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Paul Church, 30 Warwick Avenue, Cranston, RI at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
