The original “Jumanji” centered around a board game, but Hollywood has updated the sequel to be a video game.
Four teenagers are transported to the jungle, each representing a character in the game, with the challenge to win the game before they can return to their lives. Dwayne Johnson plays the nerdy teen who is transformed into a hunk. Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan become adults with bodies that are the antithesis of who they really are. They are charged with lifting an ancient curse, finding a stolen jewel and returning it to save Jumanji and get back home. Each is given three lives, which they need with all of the wild creatures and a mean motorcycle gang chasing after them.
There’s lots of action and adventure, most aimed at the younger crowd, plus a moral about relying on your strengths.
Rated PG-13 with a little profanity.
