Korean Cultural Center receives official dedication

ON THE RIBBON: Marking the opening of the new Cultural Center of the KAARI were many dignitaries, members and officers, Korean war veterans and friends. On Sept. 29, Mayor Allan Fung helped dedicate the new the new Cultural Center of the KAARI (Korean American Association of Rhode Island), located at 1440 Park Ave.

The KAARI was founded in 1975 with a desire to celebrate and share Korean culture. The KAARI community has grown in membership and events and now that they have secured a new home in Cranston they will continue to further aid their vision.

In prepared remarks, the Mayor Fung thanked the association for their contributions to the Cranston community and welcomed them to the city with open arms.

“I am excited to see the positive impact this new facility will have on the fabric of Cranston,”said Mayor Fung, as he praised the association for their work renovating and upgrading the building. With a strong presence in the heart of the city, the Mayor welcomed KAARI to the neighborhood and “noted how Cranston’s diversity and is a big reason why the city is growing and advancing.”

The KAARI was founded in 1975 to celebrate and share Korean culture with the state. Donations came primarily from members, but also overseas Korean foundations and location groups, like the RI Businesswomen Association and the R.I. Korean School.
