On Tuesday, July 16, Cranston Historical Society members and visitors enjoyed an evening of baseball stories from sportswriter and author Steven Krasner, a Cranston resident.

Sandra Moyer, the society’s president, welcomed those in attendance and introduced Mr. Krasner. He is a retired sports journalist who joined The Providence Journal in 1975 and covered many sports events, included the World Series, All-Star games and Super Bowls. He wrote for the Journal until 2008.

Among other sports-related endeavors, Krasner freelanced for ESPN Boston. He currently teaches writing at Bryant University and is executive director of Rhode Island Write on Sports, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk inner city middle school students gain confidence through writing.

Krasner was inducted into the Words Unlimited Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the Dave O’Hara Award at the Boston Baseball Writers Association of America awards dinner in 2010.

He has published several children’s books, including “The Longest Game” and “Play Ball Like the Pros.” He also conducts writing workshops.

During his presentation, Krasner shared his experiences in sports writing and shared some of the items in his memorabilia collection.
