May Breakfast boosts Defenders of Animals

WITH CLASS: Defenders of Animals Director Dennis Tabella was joined by fellow members of the East Greenwich High School class of 1963 during the event, including Gerry Santilli, Sandra Barboza, Kathy Turbitt, Maureen Lema, Mona Noonan, Betty DuLude and Priscilla Gorman. They will be having their 56th class reunion on Aug. 24 at the Imperial Room at One Rhodes Place in Cranston.

On May 19, nearly 60 people attended the annual Defenders of Animals May Breakfast held at the Sprague Mansion in Cranston.

The net proceeds from the event go to support the group’s spay/neuter services and a medical care program for companion animals.

The breakfast, which was open to the public, is held each year in cooperation with the Cranston Historical Society and Sprague Mansion, located at 1351 Cranston St.

On May 25 from 3-6 p.m. at the mansion, Defenders of Animals will host a Community Art Show to support its efforts. The show is being curated and organized by Margy Feldhuhn, and will feature food, wine, music and raffles in addition to animal-themed work from local artists. Tickets cost $25 each and may be purchased at defendersofanimals.org.

Defenders of Animals began in April 1978. In cooperation with the Humane Association of Northwestern Rhode Island and the SNYPP Clinic in Pascoag, the organization has assisted pet owners in having more than 1,000 cats spayed or neutered.

The organization has also assisted numerous pet owners with emergencies in cooperation with Warwick Animal Hospital.
