Meeting Ariel, the therapy pig

Ariel is the current queen piggy of the rescue is part of Smith & Agli’s Potbelly Manor's pet-assisted therapy program, located at 401 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown. She visits local schools to teach children about being kind to animals and spreads cheer wherever she goes. On June 24, Ariel greeted people with Defenders of Animals during their fundraiser in front of Pet Supplies Plus in Garden City. Approximately 50 people, including children, stopped by to meet Ariel, who weighs 50 pounds.

Ariel came to Potbelly Manor in April of 2009. Her mother was one of 100 pigs rescued from a hoarding situation in Pennsylvania. Thankfully Ariel was still in her mother's belly and was spared the ordeal.

Ariel has had numerous appearances including schools, nursing homes, special events and even kiss-the-pig fundraisers. Last year, Ariel went to the Hope Alzheimer's Center in Cranston and she lifted everyone's spirits as they had made pictures for her and little piggy banks welcoming her to their facility.
