Narcotics and a firearm were seized following the arrest of two men who are suspected of involvement in a shooting at a Providence nightclub early on the morning of Aug. 19, according to Cranston Police.

Derek Mensah, 25, of Worcester, Massachusetts, is charged with reckless driving/eluding police, possession of oxycodone with intent to deliver, conspiracy and multiple traffic violations, police said in a statement.

He entered no plea during his arraignment in Third Division District Court and was ordered held without bail, with a next scheduled court appearance of Sept. 3.

Providence Police say Mensah is suspected of involvement in a shooting that occurred at Flow nightclub on Cranston Street in Providence shortly before the Cranston arrest. The shooting resulted in one person – identified as 23-year-old Aldrin Munez – being hospitalized with injuries described as critical.

Another man believed to be tied to the shooting, 25-year-old Robert Sudue, was taken into custody by Cranston Police at the same time.

He has been charged with assault by Providence Police, while court records show he has also been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a pistol without a license or permit and conspiracy. He was arraigned Aug. 19 and ordered held on $75,000 bail with surety, with a next scheduled court date of Nov. 18.

Providence Police say a third suspect is still being sought. That suspect is believed to have actually shot the victim at Flow.

According to police, Mensah was arrested after police attempted to initiate a stop of a vehicle driving erratically at the intersection of Cranston Street and Webster Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m.

Police say the vehicle – a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Mensah – initially pulled over but sped off as police approached on foot. The vehicle is said to have crashed on Old Oak Avenue shortly thereafter, at which point Mensah and Sudue – who was a passenger in the vehicle – attempted to flee. Both were quickly taken into custody.

A Rhode Island State Police K-9 responded to the scene and located a .38 caliber handgun – which was reported stolen out of Massachusetts – inside the vehicle, police said. The search of the vehicle also reportedly uncovered 56 oxycodone pills.
