Michael earns All-Region XXI honors at CCRI

The CCRI Knights baseball team earned five All-Region XXI honors for the 2017 season. Dylan Brooks (Lookeba, Oklahoma), Joe Michael (Johnston, Rhode Island), Deiviz Lara (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Steve Noti (Warwick, Rhode Island) and Shane Kittila (Warwick, Rhode Island) were all named to the 2017 Division II All-Region XXI team.

Brooks was named the first baseman for the All-Region XXI team. He had the seventh-best batting average in the nation at .458, the highest in Region XXI. Brooks also posted the second-highest home run total in Region XXI with five. He had 55 hits on the year. Brooks had 14 doubles, which was good for 86th in the nation. He had 34 RBIs and 33 runs scored, which were both first on the team. He also had a .717 slugging percentage, which was third on the team. Brooks was able to reach base half of the time he went up to the plate, giving him a .500 on base percentage. He stole 11 bases on the year, getting himself into scoring position as much as he could. Brooks was great in the field, with a .995 fielding percentage that brought him to 104th in the nation. His great defensive play earned him the Defensive Player of the Year honors for Region XXI. Brooks accomplished all of this while being a great leader and tri-captain on the team.  

Noti had an impressive year on the mound for the Knights, and earned a spot on the All Region team for his play. Noti had a 5-0 record on the year, with his five wins 127th in the nation.  Noti had 65 strikeouts, which was 68th in the nation, but his strikeouts per game were sixth in the nation at 12.81. His earned run average of 3.94 was ninth in the nation. He pitched 45.2 innings for the Knights, giving them a chance to win in every outing. 

Michael was named one of the outfielders for the Region XXI team. Michael led the region in homeruns with eight. His eight home runs were 80th in the nation. Michael had 33 hits on the year, and drove in 32 runs. He scored 29 runs. He had 12 stolen bases on the year. Michael did not make an error, giving him a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Lara was another outfielder for the Region XXI team. Lara was a force at the plate with 43 hits on the year. He scored 23 runs and had 29 RBIs. Lara had three triples, which was good for 91st in the nation. He also had three home runs. His batting average of .406 was good for 57th in the country. He had an on base percentage of .471 and a slugging percentage of .604, which were good for 128th and 121st in the nation, respectively. 

Kittila was another great pitcher for the Knights, and he earned his spot on the All-Region team. Kittila pitched 50.1 innings, going 6-2. His six wins were 77th in the nation. He struck out 39 batters on the season, and had an impressive ERA of 4.29, which was 112th in the nation. Kittila was one of the main pieces to a depleted pitching staff and did a great job all year. Kittila was a great leader and was a tri-captain on the team.
