New hoops court at Peters Elementary

Yesterday Mayor Allan Fung and the Superintendent of Schools Jeannine Nota dedicated the new community outdoor basketball court at George J. Peters Elementary School to William C. Brannon. Brannon was the principal at Peters School for 17 years and more than 20 of his retired peers with family and friends join him for the ribbon cutting.

“I’m very honored and humbled to have my name on somewhere I have called home for 17 years is very rewarding and I’m very appreciative,” said Brannon.

This court was funded by community donations let by the owners of The Thirsty Beaver, Justin Erickson and interim City Councilman Ed Brady.

The two hosted a fundraiser at The Thirsty Beaver Hometown Pub and Grub in Cranston and with the help of everyone in attendance they raised over $2,500. Many small business partners contributed including JPerry Paving, Councilman Chris Paplauskas, Diamond Legends, Councilman Farina, Councilman Ken Hopkins, JD Cement Works and Bori Graphics.

“Tony Liberatore and his team at Cranston Parks and Recreation have been supportive of all of the ‘adopt a park’ community projects,” said Brady.

Brady and Erickson have been involved with including their recent collaboration on the newly built dog park in Edgewood with The Rhode Island Dream Center and a new basketball court and play area with Garden City School and Hopkins.

“It is truly amazing to continue to see the community come together to create a positive impact. We have an amazing community full of people that care about making a difference. I’m proud to be a Cranstonian,” said Brady. (Submitted photo) Photo called spot
