New Hope art gallery celebrates 8 years

On Tuesday, July 31, the New Hope Art Gallery celebrated their 8th Anniversary, which was also their summer show opening.

While the gallery was located at the Rhode Island Training School for five years, they are now located at the Michael Traficante Enrichment Center since July of 2015. The gallery is located at 1070 Cranston St. in Cranston and features art on both floors of the Center and includes on average 400 pieces of art in a variety of styles and media from 100 local, national, senior, special needs and student artists.

“Opening night was a big success enjoyed by 200 guests, including Mayor Allan Fung, who toured the gallery and spoke with guests and artists,” said Curator/Director Ricky Gagnon. “Everyone experienced a wonderful mix of art including collage, digital, drawing, fabric, mixed media, mosaic, painting and photography.”

They featured bluegrass music from Jim Chapin, David Denda, Mark Greenwood and Bob Ruzzo. Senior Artist Jack Lai created free portrait drawings. At the Gallery, they also featured 10 vendor tables of small original art items.

There were six sales of art featured that night with more purchased since the opening; from on the walls and another 12 sales of items from vendor tables. “The sheer variety of work on display is the Gallery's greatest strength,” said Assistant Curator David Koukol.

Assistant Curator Barbara Rosenbaum also stated, "As usual, it was such a pleasure to share the opening with the artists and community. Bringing the visual arts to everyone is always such a joy."

New Hope Art Gallery is a non-profit gallery with a mission: “To bring art to all people and all people to art” and would not be the success it has become without the many talented artists and for being a part of the Gallery.

The summer show runs until late October and everyone is welcome to visit the gallery during regular gallery hours from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays.
