Diabetes Support Group: Drug Allergies

May 1 at 10 a.m.Facilitators: Pharmacist Mario Casinelli and URI Pharm D studentsThis program will review the signs and symptoms of drug allergy reactions. Is it an allergy or an unwanted side effect? What medications are people most commonly allergic to? Learn the correct use of an EpiPen to counteract a severe allergic reaction.

INSIGHT Support Group

Friday, May 3 at 10:30a.m.The group offers participants a chance to connect, share practical advice and discuss fears, frustrations and hopes.

And They’re Off: Our Own Derby

Friday, May 3 at 11 a.m.Come to the races! The jockeys and their horses have been preparing for this race all year long. Dust off your best derby hat or fascinator and make your “bet” while cheering on your favorite jockey and horse. Don’t miss out on the fun. After the race, stay for lunch. Make lunch reservation by calling 780-6134.

An Added Tai Chi Class

Take part in gentile exercise that loosens joints, strengthens bones and calms the mind. The first class on May 9 is free. Come and try it, and bring a friend.

Interested in learning Italian?

If you are interested in learning conversational Italian, call the Programs Office at 780-6216. We are looking to begin a class if there is interest.

A Walking Club: Arthritis Foundation ‘Walk With Ease’ Program

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9-10 a.m., April 29-June 7Three mornings a week, participants will walk the Cranston High School West Track. Participants will begin with stretching exercises and then walk at their own pace. To register, call 780-6000.

Making Cranston Dementia Friendly: Understanding the Dementia Journey

Wednesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.This two-part series begins Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. with “The Basics: Age-Related Memory Loss, Alzheimer’s Disease & Other Dementias.” Dr. Lori Daiello of the Alzheimer’s Disease & Memory Disorders Center at Rhode Island Hospital will speak, while a woman wrestling with Alzheimer’s will discuss her personal journey. The series continues Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. with “A Caregiver’s Journey: The Emotional & Physical Impact of Caregiving” and “Taking Care of You: Preventing Caregiver Burnout.” Presenters will include caregivers from the community and Annie Murphy of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Rhode Island chapter.

Register for one or both programs by calling 780-6000. Respite care will be available at no cost. Sign up when registering.
