Coloring Book Club

Mondays, 9:30-10:30 a.m.Free materials provided

There are plenty of activities to help engage one’s brain and increase motor skills. Now, add coloring books for adults to the list. Coloring can relax the brain, reduce anxiety and stress, and help people focus while enhancing motor skills that may begin fading as we age. Stop by…bring a friend and see what our Coloring Book Club is all about.

Bone Builders of RI: Promoting Bone Health & Well Being

Bone Builders is based on a program originally developed by Tufts University. Research has found that weight training and balance exercises give participants the strength and stability to significantly reduce incidents of falling and fracturing bones. This exercise program consists of physical movement, balancing exercise and exercises using free weights. For more information, call 497-3358.

Keep on dancing

Brush up on ballroom dancing and line dancing or come and learn new steps. This program offers great exercise and lots of fun. Ballroom dancing meets every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a fee of $4. Line dancing meets on Wednesdays from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., with a fee of $2. Chronic Disease Self-Management Program: Living Well Rhode Island

Many people suffer from some form of a chronic condition, such as arthritis, diabetes, pain, asthma, COPD or hypertension. What can we do to help manage these chronic conditions that we face almost every day? Topics to be covered will include dealing with frustration, pain and fatigue; exercise; medications; nutrition; evaluating new treatments; and how best to communicate with health professionals. Upon successfully completing the class, participants will receive a workbook, a relaxation CD and a gift certificate. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 780-6000.

A Matter of Balance: Take a Stand to Prevent Falls

Wednesdays and Fridays, 9-11:30 a.m.Beginning March 6, ending March 29

This is an evidenced-based program recognized to reduce the fear of falling and increase the levels of activity. Many people think falls are a normal part of aging. The truth is, they’re not. Most falls can be prevented and people have the power to reduce that risk. Sign up now for this four-week program. City tax freeze

Persons who are 65 years of age or older, totally disabled and residing in a single- or two-family owner-occupied dwelling have until March 15 to apply. Applicants must have an income of less than $20,000 per year for occupancy of one person or $23,000 per year for occupancy of more than one person. Applicants will need to provide proof of their 2018 household income. To apply, call 780-6000 and ask for the Social Services Division to schedule an appointment.
