Oaklawn takes a musical journey under the sea

The students in Dayna Cianci-Hudick and Sheri Poyant’s Kindergarten classes at Oaklawn Elementary teamed up to perform a very special concert on Wednesday, June 14,

under the direction of music teacher Jessica Hookway, the students have been busy rehearsing for their musical debut.

With the theme “Go Fish” the students entertained their guests, family and friends with their singing, coordination and pure enthusiasm.

Principal James Zanfini told the audience he was very proud of the students, for their hard work and was excited to see what they had been working on for so long.

“They have working on the musical for about two months which is not a long time for that age group. Ever since the first rehearsal they have been working very hard and are very excited. I am so proud of what they have accomplished in such a short amount of time,” said Hookway.

They performed six songs including; Oceans of Fun, We're Sharks, Commotion in the Ocean, Roundup Under the Sea, Colors of the Sea and a reprise of Oceans of Fun. Hookway directed the students with hand signals, body motions and reminders to smile and sing loudly.

“I thought it was a great way of getting all our kindergarten kids together to end the year off with some fun. They all worked very hard and had so much fun singing and dancing. Round of applause to Ms. Hookway for orchestrating the event,” said Yvonne Ricci, mother of Mia from Mrs. Cianci-Hudick’s classroom.
