Although the school year has only just begun, the school community at Park View Middle School is already full-speed ahead, registering participants and accepting sponsorships for this year’s Veteran’s Day 5K.

The website for this year’s race has recently gone live, and the race will be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 11. Each year, for the past five years, and again this year, PVMS has recognized the Veteran’s Day holiday with a community race, which this year will benefit Park View Middle School programming throughout the school year, and the local veterans’ organization, Operation Stand Down. The run begins and ends at Roger Williams Park, across from Park View Middle School.

There will be a one-mile kids’ run ($10 registration fee) on a separate course, which will begin at 8:30 a.m., open to elementary and middle school students. Elementary and middle school students are also eligible to register for the 5K ($15 registration fee) which will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the 5K adult race ($20 registration fee until Oct. 1, and $25 until Nov. 9) also runs from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

There are multiple divisions in the race, and awards will be given out to the top two men and women in each division as follows: eighth-grade and under, high school division, ages 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80.

According to one of the organizers, John Macera, there will be shirts given out to the first 600 entries for the 5K race, food and beverages available at the conclusion of the race and awards given out to top finishers.

Currently, sponsorships for the race are being accepted, and will be accepted until October 15. Race packets are handed out to participants who have registered by Nov. 9, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the PVMS gym. Race day registration will take place beginning at 7:00 a.m.
