Parrillo takes on job of Director of Administration

Daniel Parrillo, former director of personnel, stepped into his new role of Director of Administration this week under a reorganization in the mayor’s office.

Parrillo fills the post held by Robin Muksian, who assumed the job of Town Manager for Stoughton, Mass. this week. Additionally, the position of chief of staff held by Carlos E. Lopez is being changed to Deputy Director of Administration, said Parrillo.

As part of the administrative reorganization is the position of communications outreach aid, a job currently being filled by Mark Shieldrop, special executive assistant to the mayor.

Parrillo couldn’t say whether Lopez and Shieldrop would be staying with the administration.

“They are on the books to Jan. 4; city employees to that point,” he said.

Overall, Parrillo said, the changes won’t impact the budget even though there are changes in the pay rates of the positions. He said his pay at $87,000 is unchanged by his new position. The changes in staff positions will require City Council approval Parrillo said.

“When the mayor asks you say, yes,” Parrillo said of his new role.

Parrillo joined the administration of Allan Fung in the summer of 2017 after having served almost 25 years with the Johnston Police Department, where he achieved the rank of deputy chief. Referencing his tenure with Johnston Police and his familiarity with a chain of command, Parrillo sees the reorganization to his liking.

He said he looks forward to meeting with directors and carrying forward the work done by Mayor Fung. As for Lopez and Shieldrop, he said they would be reporting to him
