Bernard Patenaude, who has served on the Cranston Fire Department for 39 years and spent the last nine years as its assistant chief, has been chosen as the next chief of the East Greenwich Fire Department.
According to a release from the town of East Greenwich, Patenaude was selected for the post from a field of 24 applicants. A selection committee interviewed ten of those candidates, and three were chosen for final interviews with the East Greenwich Town Council.
Patenaude’s experience, according to the release, includes oversight of the Cranston department’s 206 employees and $32 million budget as well as service on the Rhode Island State Fire Academy’s Fire Education and Training Board.
A graduate of East Greenwich High School, Patenaude began his career in the fire service as a volunteer with the East Greenwich Fire District in the late 1970s. He hold’s a bachelor’s degree in fire science from Providence College.
“East Greenwich welcomes Chief Patenaude to the town’s management team,” the press release states.
