Police: Texas truck driver threatened to shoot bicyclists

A Killeen, Texas, man is facing charges after police say he threatened to shoot a group of bicyclists early on the morning of Aug. 19.

Thomas Pierre, 28, is charged with carrying a pistol without a license or permit, carrying a weapon while intoxicated and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty. He had been scheduled for arraignment Aug. 19 in Third Division District Court.

According to police, a call was received just after 2 a.m. reporting that the male operator of a tractor-trailer – later identified as Pierre – had threatened to shoot a passing group of bicyclists. The caller said the man threatened to shoot him as well.

At the scene, officers found the man had previously been at the Zona Lounge on Niantic Avenue and appeared intoxicated. He was subsequently located inside the tractor-trailer, which was parked on Navaho Street.

Pierre was allegedly found in possession of two firearms – Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Taurus .40 caliber pistol – along with roughly 100 rounds of ammunition.

Man indicted on drug trafficking charges

A Providence man alleged to have sold nearly two kilograms of fentanyl and nearly 400 grams of heroin while under surveillance by law enforcement has been indicated by a federal grand jury.

Josimar Delacruz-Reyes, 31, could serve life in prison if convicted on charges of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, according to an Aug. 15 statement from the office of U.S. Attorney Aaron L. Weisman.

Members of the DEA Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested Delacruz-Reyes in March. The task force is said to have monitored multiple drug transactions in which he was involved during February and early March.

The task force includes personnel from the Cranston Police Department, along with Rhode Island State Police and local departments in East Providence, Central Falls, Coventry, Newport, North Kingstown, Pawtucket, Providence, South Kingstown, Warwick, West Warwick and Woonsocket.
