Suspect in drug case arrested after search

A city man who was the subject of a search after an investigation into fentanyl trafficking has been arrested.

Leonard T. Liriano, 21, had been wanted on charges of possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver, eluding police and operating with a suspended license, according to a Friday statement from Cranston Police. He is additionally said to have “known affiliations” with the Bloods street gang.

On Tuesday, Police Maj. Todd Patalano said Liriano turned himself in at the department’s Garfield Avenue headquarters without incident that morning. The department had sought the public’s help in locating Liriano and urged caution in the event he was encountered, citing an earlier weapons charge against him from Providence Police.

The new charges stem from a multi-week investigation into local fentanyl and heroin distribution, as well as a Jan. 30 incident in which Liriano is said to have evaded officers prior to the execution of a search warrant at his Garden Street apartment.

According to the statement, members of the Cranston Police Special Investigations Unit obtained the warrant for Liriano’s residence based on their investigation. Officers are said to have attempted to stop Liriano while he was operating a rental vehicle, described as a black 2019 Chevy Impala bearing Massachusetts registration.

“Liriano refused to comply, and due to public safety concerns the motor vehicle pursuit was terminated,” the statement reads.

Police then executed the warrant for Liriano’s apartment, finding a woman – identified as 18-year-old Taleeyah Ericka Silva, with the same address as Liriano – inside. According to the statement, Silva was allegedly “disposing of illegal narcotics” in the apartment’s bathroom.

The search is said to have resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and materials used to package narcotics. Silva was arrested on a charge of possession of fentanyl with intern to distribute and later released on $15,000 bond with surety after her arraignment in Third Division District Court. She is due to appear in Superior Court on April 24.
