Registration now underway for annual 5K to benefit veterans

Registration is currently taking place now for the Fifth Annual Veterans Day 5K sponsored by Park View Middle School. For the second year in a row, the proceeds will be split between the school and Operation Stand Down, a local organization that provides support and resources to Rhode Island veterans. Last year's race had the highest number of participants ever, and it is the school's goal to surpass last year's numbers this year.

According to one of the organizers, John Macera, the race, which was created by Park View Middle School to honor veterans who have served their country, takes place this year on Saturday, November 11, starting and ending at Roger Williams Park. It is a 5K Run/Walk or a one-mile kids' run. The run/walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

The cost to register in advance for this race is $25 for adults, $15 for students, or $15 for each runner in a family of three or more. Those who register on the day of the race will pay $30.

The kids' one-mile walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and is aimed at children ages 12 and under. The cost for the children's race is $10 and the first 50 race entrants receive a t-shirt.

Those who register in advance can pick up their packets at Park View Middle School in the school gym on Thursday, November 9 between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Those who pick up their packets on race day can do so beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Organizers of the race encourage online registration and suggest registering by November 3 in order to guarantee a race t-shirt. Online registration can be found by visiting the Park View website at cpsed.net/pview/PV5K.html.
