Rhode Island Active Toastmasters - Open House

Posted by kumaras

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Founded in October 1924, the organization currently has more than 270,000 members in 13,000 clubs in 116 countries. Each week, Toastmasters helps more than a quarter million people of every ethnicity, education and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain the confidence to lead others.

Rhode Island Active Toastmasters started as an advanced speakers club and evolved to an open club to increase the diversity of speakers. In a single meeting, one could hear on subjects as diverse as biology, civic leadership, web security and laughter yoga! At this club, we also have a unique blend of enthusiastic new speakers groomed by the accomplished advanced speakers.

In every meeting, we have prepared as well as impromptu speeches and detailed evaluations. All speakers receive feedback on timing, grammar and fluency - all key ingredients of a compelling speech. The members also have an opportunity to hone their leadership skills by playing various roles in the meeting and for managing the club.
