The Rhode Island College women’s tennis team has been picked to finish first in the 2019-20 Little East Conference Preseason Women’s Tennis Coaches Poll.
Junior Serena Bobola (Cranston) was named Second Team All-Little East in singles, going 15-1 (.938) at No. 3 singles and 14-2 (.875) in doubles at the No. 3 spot for 22.0 points on the season.
Head Coach Adam Spring’s team won the Little East Regular Season Championship for the fourth consecutive season, while also claiming the league’s tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Championship for the season straight campaign, a year ago. RIC recorded a new program record for victories in 2018-19, going 18-1 and winning a first round NCAA Championship match. RIC is 35-2 over the past two season, with the only losses coming in the second round of the NCAA tourney.
The Anchorwomen return several key contributors from last year’s title winners, led by junior Grace Zangari (Saunderstown) who was named Second Team All-Little East in singles and was a Second Team All-Little East selection in doubles. She was 9-8 (.529) at No. 1 singles and 18-1 (.947) at No. 2 doubles for 18.0 points on the season. The 18 doubles wins tied the program record for a single season.
Junior Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 Little East Conference Championship last fall. She was also named Second Team All-Little East in doubles. Raskob went 17-1 (.944) at primarily No. 5 singles and a perfect 18-0 (1.000) at No. 2 doubles for a team-best 26.0 points on the season. The 18 doubles wins tied the program record for a single season.
Junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick) was named Second Team All-Little East in doubles. She was 14-1 (.933) at primarily No. 6 singles and 9-10 (.474) primarily at No. 1 doubles for 18.5 points on the season.
Junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford) was named a Second Team All-Little East in singles. She went 10-5 (.667) at No. 2 singles and 1-1 (.500) at doubles for 10.5 points on the season.
The Anchorwomen open the 2019-20 season at home vs. Wentworth on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (4 p.m.).
